ALEXANDER DÍAZ ANDERSSON
Alexander Díaz Andersson is a designer, interior architect and creative director whose distinctive practice draws on a dialogue between Scandinavian heritage and Mexican craftsmanship. After studying Industrial Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, he settled in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, where he began experimenting with furniture before founding ATRA, now based between Mexico City, Los Angeles and New York.
His work exists at the intersection of collectible design, sculpture and architecture. Guided by a delicate balance between chaos and structure, fluidity and functionality, his creations combine refined materials, contemporary techniques and exceptional craftsmanship. Developed in close collaboration with master artisans specialising in wood, stone, metal and upholstery, each piece reflects a constant pursuit of innovation while celebrating traditional making techniques.
Internationally recognised, Alexander Díaz Andersson has been featured in Wallpaper, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Surface and GQ. He received the Best in Show award at Design Miami 2021 and was later honoured with the UNESCO Prix Versailles 2024 for the restaurant ILIS in New York. His work embodies a vision of design in which emotion, craftsmanship and a sense of pleasure remain at the heart of every creation.
