PATRICIA GOLOMBEK
Born in São Paulo in 1964, Brazilian artist Patricia Golombek has spent more than three decades developing a distinctive body of work at the intersection of contemporary art and architecture. She graduated in Architecture from the Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paulo in 1986, where she was deeply influenced by the teachings of Flávio Império, Renina Katz and Marcelo Nitsche, whose interdisciplinary approach brought together the visual arts, philosophy, anthropology and sociology. After several years of study under painter and art critic Ernestina Karman, Golombek considers her first solo exhibition in 1994 to mark the true beginning of her artistic career.
Since then, her work has been presented at numerous international art fairs and institutions, including ARCO Madrid, Art Paris, Art Miami, Art NY and Art Marché Contemporain. Her practice has also been recognised by the Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) and the Museu de Arte Contemporânea (MAC) in São Paulo.
At the heart of Golombek's practice is an investigation into the language of architecture and the invisible structures that underpin the built environment. Drawing on architectural plans, preparatory sketches and spatial solutions conceived by architects, she creates works that reveal the often-overlooked processes of design concealed once a building is completed. Rather than representing architecture, her work offers a critical and poetic interpretation of it.
Working with painting, acrylic, cement, precious metals and layered transparent panels, Golombek has developed a visual language rooted in perspective, superimposition and the perception of space. Her work establishes a continuous dialogue between geometric abstraction, architectural memory and the viewer's experience, positioning her as one of the most original contemporary artists exploring the relationship between art and architecture.
